In the genus Porphyromonas we have Porphyromonas asaccharolytica and Porphyromonas levii that are not associated with any
disease.
Porphyromonas endodontalis which was originally
isolated from and plays a major role in some endodontic infections.
And Porphyromonas gingivalis which plays a major role
in many periodontal diseases. Porphyromonas catoniae is another organism
newly isolated from a case of periodontal disease.
