ACCC WebDisks - Access your files
from anywhere on the net!
Introduction
ACCC WebDisks is a Blackboard enhancement which allows students, faculty, and staff to store files
on-line so that they are always easily accessible from any computer connected to the internet. No more disks, CDs, or flash drives - just upload
and retrieve from anywhere in the world!

Features
Documents, webpages, datasets, presentations - anything that you can imagine, can be stored on your WebDisk. Access to these files is controlled, so you can keep them private; or, in conjunction with the Blackboard Content System (BbCS), you can grant access to the files that you have uploaded to one or many users with a few simple clicks. You can even make the files available to those outside of the university.

The files are stored on the ACCC's central server
and backed up daily. Everyone affiliated with the University has
an automatic 100 MB of storage space; departments can request up to 500 MB of storage space.
All faculty support for WebDisks is handled through
the ITL - if you have questions about using the system, or would
like more information please send an email to itl@uic.edu.
The Details
WebDisks uses a technology called "WebDAV,"
which is an internet standard for sharing files that is supported
by Microsoft, Apple, and the Open Source community. A WebDAV server
is a web server with the ability to upload files as well as download
them.
WebDisks can be accessed any way you like - you
can choose to use the webclient (in which case practically any computer
with an internet connection and a webbrowser would be sufficient),
or you can choose to use any number of WebDAV clients designed for
use with multiple different operating systems to access your files.
If you use the WebDAV client method, you can have your files appear
to be on a local disk drive, a network place, a mounted filesystem,
or whatever else you choose! This means that you can drag-and-drop multiple files simultaneously onto your WebDisk, and even edit documents located on the WebDisk without having to remove and re-upload them after revision.
For more details on using WebDisks, please select
your Operating System from the links in the left hand navigation.
How to Get Started with your
WebDisk
Anyone with an active netid at UIC already has a WebDisk. In order
to login to the system using the web client through the BbCS just
visit:
http://webdisks.uic.edu
and login using your UIC netid and ACCC Common Password.
After logging in you will see a tab labeled "Content System".
Click on the tab and you are ready to begin uploading and sharing
your files!

For detailed instructions on how to set up desktop
WedDAV folders for your specific operating system please click on
the links to the left.
Once again, all faculty support for WebDisks is handled
through the ITL - if you have questions about using the system,
or would like more information please send an email to itl@uic.edu. If you are having trouble logging in, you may need to reset your password. Please use the ACCC Password Changing Utility at passwords.accc.uic.edu or see an ACCC Client Services Office (CSO) consultant.
