Appendix D: Windows Client Install and Setup

 
Note on Oracle Calendar for Windows Vista: New February 20, 2008: Version 10.1.2.4 supports Windows Vista. However: "This release does not support the following actions for the address book: publishing, retrieving, backup, and restoring. If you are upgrading from a previous version of the Oracle Calendar desktop client for Windows and prefer to keep these abilities, Oracle recommends that you do not upgrade to this release." Both Version 10.1.2 and Version 10.1.2.4 are available on the Downloads page.

Installing the Oracle Calendar Windows Client
 
  1. Download the Oracle Calendar Windows Client from the Downloads page.
  2. Double-click on the .exe file that you downloaded, which opens the Window installer.
  3. Click Next>.
  4. Select a destination folder if you wish and click Next>.
  5. Click Install to begin the installation.
  6. Click Finish when the installation is finished.
 
     
Setting Up for UICalendar
 
  1. Start Oracle Calendar: Start then Programs then Oracle Calendar then Oracle Calendar.
  2. At first, only the Off-line login will be defined. You need to add a login for the UICalendar server; click the Other button.

  3. The Connection Manager window opens; click New....

  4. The Connection Editor screen opens.
    • For the Connection Name:, type: UICalendar or your netid or something on that order
    • For the Server:, type uicalendar.uic.edu
    • Click Lookup.
  5. The Connection Configuration window opens. This allows you to automatically configure UICalendar for a specific person.
    • Click Configure For a Specific User:
    • Click the search magnifying glass icon.
    • In the Search box, type your last name in the Surname box and click Search.
    • Select your User name from the box at the bottom and click OK.
    • Click Configure.

  6. You will go directly back to the Connection Editor.
    • In the illustration, the server name is changed to uical-1.cc.uic.edu. Don't worry if you get another backend server name.
    • Node: will be Server defined.
    • Auth Method will be: Standard Authentication
    • Compression Method will be: Run Length Encoding Co...
    • Encryption Method will be: Affine Cipher (Light Encryption is OK also)
    • Click OK.
  7. Back in the Connection Manager windows, click on UICalendar to select it, click Make Default, and click OK. (The server does not allow Automatic Sign-in.)

  8. Then select the UICalendar location from the Connect to dropdown list in the Oracle Calendar login screen. If you configured it for your account, your user name will be filled in already. If not type in your UIC netid in the User name box, and type your ACCC password in the Password box. Click Sign-in.

  9. Oracle Calendar will ask you whether you want it to be made your default calendar, which will be opened whenever you open a .ics or .vcs file. Click Yes or No. If you are sure that you will not want to change your mind about this, click Don't ask me again first.
