The Field Guide to Chicago Buildings was developed as a
collaborative effort between the City
Design Center at the University of
Illinois at Chicago and the Chicago
Teachers' Center of Northeastern Illinios University
with funding from the National Endowment of the
Humanities and the United States Department of
Education.

Answer for Question # 3: Who lived here? It is quite likely that this building housed two families of fairly modest
income. Most really affluent people in nineteenth century Chicago would
have wanted a house of their own. In this case it was very likely to have
been one family who built the house for their own use and who rented out
the other unit to help pay the mortgage and the costs of maintaining the
building. |
