Guessing the age of building: Most people can easily tell a brand new car from one that is very old. Trying to judge the age of many of the cars in-between is more difficult unless you have paid close attention as the cars came out or you have done some specific study. The same is true for buildings. With a little research most people can usually make a pretty good guess about building dates. After only a little study, it would be clear to most people that this building dates to the late 19th century. Question # 2 (a): But is it possible to guess more exactly when it was built? What sources are there to learn more? And how would you check your guess?
This building was almost certainly built as a two-flat, meaning that it was meant to house two families. Question # 2 (b): How would you know that? |
