Answer to Question 2 (Part b):

The two-flat:

If this house were a single-family dwelling it would likely have had a first floor that was slightly different from the second floor because there would probably have been public rooms like the living and dining room downstairs and bedrooms upstairs. Instead this building is all but identical on each floor except for the necessary modifications to allow for a front door. Also the vestibule with two doors within it is almost a sure sign of a two flat. One would enter into the living room of the ground floor unit. The other would open onto a staircase for the upper floor unit. (For more on two-flats see XX supply link to 2-flat page)
