U.S.G.S. Maps
The U.S. Geological Survey is charged by
the
government
with the task of mapping all areas of the United States. These maps, once the
result of heroic explorations of the American West, are now done by modifying
satellite and aerial photographs of the regions. The maps are updated regularly,
and are sold at a nominal fee by the USGS.
Maps of the Chicago area are also sold through map companies like Rand McNally.
The one we've chosen to scan dates from a few decades ago; students of the University
of Illinois, Chicago will notice that the University is located at its postwar
temporary facility at Navy Pier!
