I replaced all target "_blank" tags with "_parent" tags.
(20 files changed.) This concerns external links and how they are displayed.
Previously, they would open in a new window, and imagebase would stay in the
old window, underneath. This has led to some confusion to people who have their
browsers maximized, as they may not see (or know) that the imagebase window
is still available underneath, and you can't browse back to imagebase from the
new window. Now, the external link will REPLACE the imagebase window, but the
user will still have the option of returning to imagebase via the "back"
button on the browser. We received a couple suggestions regarding this---hopefully
the new way will clear up some of that confusion.
Early May 1999
- Marsha Selmer suggestions:
- Changed "U.S. Geological Service"to "U.S. Geological Survey" on McClendon
maps
- Changed text above the map of the Near West Side.
- Ms Selmer also wrote: "When I go to some links, e.g., Bridgeport,
I cannot return to the Imagebase pages using the back arrow icon of Netscape
com. 4.5. You may want to consider adding return links to those pages."
I think she's referring to the LockZero project, or any external link
which opens in another window. These external links don't necessarily
link back to Imagebase, and because they are "new windows",
you can't link back using the netscape back button. George also commented
on this. The only way around this is to have the external link replace
the imagebase window (as opposed to opening a new window). Should I do
this with external links instead? That would also prevent having several
"open windows".
