The Chicago Imagebase is a Web-based project aimed at enhancing knowledge about the built environment of the Chicago region. On this site you will find a wide variety of images and other data along with information on how to use this data to study the city.

It is being developed at the University of Illinois at Chicago to:

  • support the university's teaching program
  • help governmental bodies and non-profit agencies deliver information to the public
  • provide materials for research on Chicago's built environment.

To find images and information in the site you can:

  • Visual search: Click "Map Search" to navigate visually by a map
  • Text search: Enter a word in the word search box in the left margin to use our search engine
  • Browse: Click on Table of Contents to see a skeletal listing of materials on the site
