Dear alumnus,

Please take a few minutes to complete this survey. Even if you only have a moment, at least answer questions 3 and 4, and update your contact information on the last page. We take pride in the placement of our graduates, and we would like to be able to use that information to promote the department, enhance networking opportunities for current students, increase our ranking, and add inherent worth to your degree.

Of course, your responses to all of the questions would be appreciated. Feedback from alumni is the most important measure we have of the quality of our educational program. Your time and suggestions are highly valued in our continuous effort to make the UIC Bioengineering Program among the best in the nation!

Mission Statement:
The mission of the Department of Bioengineering is to provide an environment where students can achieve a high level of competence in the skills and knowledge inherent to the discipline of bioengineering. The discipline of bioengineering is distinguished by the application of quantitative engineering analysis and design to systems that include living components. Mastery of these skills and knowledge will prepare students for careers in the growing biomedical industry and for admission to graduate and professional schools.

The Bioengineering Department core faculty is complemented by a large cadre of adjunct faculty drawn from almost every College within the University (Liberal Arts and Sciences, Medicine, Applied Health Sciences, Business Administration, Public Health, Dentistry, and Pharmacy). The faculty teaches a comprehensive curriculum that addresses each of the educational objectives necessary to achieve the department's mission.

Program Educational Objectives:

1	Graduates will demonstrate a foundational knowledge in the supporting disciplines of biology, mathematics, physics, chemistry, and computer science in the practice of their profession.
2	Graduates will demonstrate mastery of the core intellectual province of the bioengineering discipline. This will include competence in measuring, modeling, analyzing, and designing systems that involve living components.
3	Graduates will be practiced in solving complex bioengineering problems in a team-based environment, including strategic planning, self-directed learning, and formal reporting.
4	Graduates will demonstrate good engineering design practices, including cognizance of health, safety, ethical, and environmental concerns.
5	Graduates will demonstrate depth of knowledge in a specific Area of Concentration, including advanced knowledge, application of concepts, and laboratory training.
6	Graduates will be competitive with peers from Big Ten universities for positions in industry, professional school, or graduate programs, as dictated by the student's broader goals while at UIC.
