Registration Information For Summer and Fall 2012
Biochemistry I, BIOS/CHEM 452
Biochemistry I, BIOS/CHEM 452, is controlled by the Department of Chemistry. If you try to register for this course and encounter a "Departmental Approval Required" hold, you must contact the Department of Chemistry at (312) 996-3161 to request an override to register for the course.
Major Registration Restriction
Students in Physics, Teaching of Physics, Teaching of Chemistry, Biochemistry, Neuroscience, Chemistry, Bioengineering, Biological Sciences, and Earth and Environmental Sciences majors may register for 300- and 400-level BIOS classes. All other students, including science minors and students who have recently declared any of the above listed majors, are restricted from registering for all 300-400 level BIOS courses.
Non-science majors who wish to register for 300- and 400-level BIOS courses (including pre-health students and non-LAS students), will need departmental approval. Students may request approval to register for these courses beginning on April 12th, 2012. Do NOT contact the Biological Sciences department requesting an override prior to this date. To request an override, email your name, UIN, and the course for which you need approval to either Tricia Stark (tricia@uic.edu) or Vanessa Ricker (rickervk@uic.edu).
There are no restriction holds on 300-400 level BIOS courses during summer semester. So ANY student, regardless of major or college, may register for 300-400 level BIOS courses in summer semester without needing approval from the department. However, you must still have the prerequisites for the courses in which you plan to enroll - this is University policy.
BIOS 350 and 351 (Microbiology Lecture and Laboratory), Non-Science Majors and Non-LAS Students
There is no override request form for summer 2012. So long as you have the prerequisites, you may enroll in BIOS 350/351 as soon as you are able to do so for summer 2012 registration.
The override request form for Fall 2012 will be available here beginning on March 5, 2012. (You will need to log in using your netID.) The override request form will close on March 30, 2012. If you did not sign up on the override request list by March 30, you may email your request to one of the Biological Sciences advisors listed above beginning on April 12, 2012, but no sooner.
Students who submit their request by the deadline will be notified regarding their eligibility between April 4th - 12th. Please do not contact the Biological Sciences department or the College of Liberal Arts and Science before April 12th inquiring about your request.
If you plan on taking one or more of the prerequisite courses for BIOS 350/351 at another institution during summer or fall 2012 semesters, then you will need to provide proof that you are registered for these courses in order to receive approval to register for BIOS 350/351. Students may deliver a copy of their registration report to the LAS Academic Advising Center front desk (3rd floor, UH) to the attention of "Pre-Health Advising." Please include your name and UIN with the registration report.
