T
he Structural and Concrete Materials Laboratory includes: an Instron 8500 Series Servohydraulic Testing System that is used for the controlled testing of various materials in a closed-loop system; an acoustic emission data acquisition system; a Concrete Analysis System (CAS 2000) for petrographic analysis of hardened concrete; a digital image analysis system; scanning electron and quantitative microscopes; a Deluxe Super
L Tinius Olsen Universal Testing Machine, 400,000 lb capacity, digital type for testing tension and compression structural elements. Instrumentation available at the laboratory ranges from simple digital indicators to a high speed computer-controlled data acquisition
system—the MEGADAC 5017A Data Acquisition System. The laboratory also includes a
controlled temperature-humidity environmental chamber, a moisture room with a 100% RH and 65°F, and a prestressing bed for fabricating prestressed beams, columns, and slabs.
