If you're considering a gift, it's worthwhile to look into your employer's matching-gift program.  It could mean multiplying the amount of your donation.  If you are unsure whether or not your employer has such a program, review our alphabetic listing of over 7,500 matching-gift companies. You will receive credit for the entire gift, both your contribution and the company match, and it counts toward membership requisites in college and University donor-recognition groups such as the Presidents Council.

Eligible donors for a corporate matching gift may include retired employees, spouse of employees or widows and widowers of former employees.  Check with your company's human resources office.

You may request a matching gift form from your firm's human resources department and mail the completed form along with your gift check payable to the University of Illinois Foundation.  Our staff will handle the rest of the work.  (Note: The Foundation's federal corporate tax ID number is 37-6006007).

Securities

Gifts of stock, bonds, mutual funds and other appreciated securities are welcomed at the University of Illinois at Chicago.  Gifts of appreciated securities may provide immediate assistance to UIC, as gifts of cash do, or may be made as part of our planned giving program to benefit the long-term needs of the University.

Some benefits of gifts of appreciated securities:

  • You avoid capital gains tax.  Gains are taxable if you sell stock or mutual fund shares, but not if you transfer ownership to the University.
  • Your charitable deduction for federal income tax purposes is based on the full, fair-market value of the shares on the date the gift is made.
  • You receive credit from UIC for the full fair-market value of the shares, but the cost to you is your original purchase price.

These gifts require special planning and consultation with your professional financial advisor as well as UIC staff. To make a gift of stock, please contact the Foundation at 217-333-0810.
