Spring 2007 International Studies Program Seminar:
REFUGEES IN AN AGE OF CATASTROPHE

Course Requirements
Attendance in this class is crucial. (4 pts will be deducted for every unexcused absence)
Grades will be determined as follows:
(1) Each student will participate in weekly readings and film reviews. (20%)
(2) Each student will conduct at least two observations and write a 5-8 page report on a refugee service providing organization based in the Chicago metropolitan area. The goal of this project is to link the international and the local issues associated with refugees and forced migrant persons, human rights and domestic policies. Due March 7. (40%).
(3) Each student will produce a research paper on an issue of their choice that pertains to the course topic. These papers must include at least eight correctly sited sources, and incorporate one fieldwork aspect. Due May 2nd. (40%)
