Archives Committee
To maintain and update the current Archive website; review and revise the existing guidelines; continue the effort of archiving a permanent file of Chapter records for the current academic year, such as correspondence of lasting interest, program information, and officers, etc; ensure that officers and committee chairs send designated records to the Committee; file records according to the current filing system; further enhance the files and filing system if necessary; communicate to the members about any updates; identify areas of need for the archives; serve as advisory body to the Board on matters involving the archives. (Due to a restricted access to the server, the Webmaster will upload all the files, while the Committee take care of gathering the records, organizing the files and providing a completed page for uploading).
Membership Committee
To recruit new members for the Chapter; identify areas of need concerning Chapter membership; serve as an advisory body to the Board on matters involving Chapter membership; develop and distribute the Chapter's brochures, and CALA application forms to members along with the PR Committee; communicate with CALA Membership Committee on producing Membership Directory and maintaining up-to-date membership mailing lists; work closely with State Contacts on the Chapter’s membership; monitor the concerns of inactive members, and bring these concerns to the attention of the Board; assist the CALA Mentoring Committee in coordinating professional development activities; keeps track of all new members and ensure that this information be publicized in appropriate channels, e.g., newsletters, websites and discussion lists; publicize noteworthy accomplishments and publications of the Chapter members.
Program CommitteeTo coordinate and supervise plans for the Chapter’s annual conference (view past programs) ; develop a program that will bring keynote speakers, professional development sessions, and research efforts; recommend annual program sites, including the city, hotel and travel; provide a forum for the exchange of information and ideas among professionals; acquaint members with the various benefits for attending the program; communicate program plans to the members and work with Local Arrangement Committee on all counts of agenda, registration, fees, publicity, transportation, tours/events, budget/fundraising, equipment/facilities, lunch/refreshment, and entertainment, etc.
Public Relations CommitteeTo identify fundraising opportunities and recommend to the Board; expand the list of the Chapter’s contributors and periodically contact them when possible; work with the Program Committee raising funds and writing letters soliciting donations for the annual program; inform the Web Committee of any updates they should be aware of; ask prospective advertisers to post commercials on the Chapter’s website/publications; update the Chapter’s brochure; create flyers/ announcements for the annual program; promote and coordinate media coverage of the annual program; film/tape and take pictures if possible at events/activities; along with the Membership Committee, promote and communicate the promotional and informational aspects of the Chapter to new members; publicize the Chapter to increase the visibility, and promote awareness and understanding of the Chinese-American librarianship.
State Contacts
To act as a liaison for each State; think creatively and practically about connecting Chinese-American librarians at a local level; facilitate and organize a state-wide gathering/meeting; actively participate in the recruiting effort; provide linkages between a State and the Chapter on any events and activities; act as a referral point for the Board on some state level issues; assist the Membership Committee promoting Chinese-American librarianship in each State;help identify individuals within the State who would serve as next State contact; answer questions on the Chapter’s behalf regarding CALA librarianship; assist with the effort of compiling Mid-America Chinese Resource Guide; publicize CALAMW to local agencies and organizations, and work with PR Committee on fundraising.
Web Committee
To be responsible for all information that goes onto the web; serve as liaison hosting the Chapter’s website; act as a resource on electronic communication technology; update and maintain the website; evaluate the current website; redesign and launch a new site as needed; work with membership Committee to gather and respond to member feedback on the website; make recommendations to the Board on the guidelines and other web related issues; establish a protocol; determine the content; create/edit web pages and necessary images; work closely with PR Committee for pictures/video clips/presentation files from the annual program; make sure all data/information be properly stored; work with the Archive Committee for data backup; help publicize events and programs by promoting the value of CALA membership through a fresh, informative and dynamic website. (Due to a restricted access to the server, the Webmaster will upload all the files, while the Committee take care of all the design, update and edition/revision of the site).
