Two local programs developed this year were introduced at the event. One is the newly designed MW Chapter Brochure by the Public Relation Committee. It was disseminated at the gathering. Many members and friends took some extra copies after the gathering and would distribute them to other friends and their libraries. Another program introduced at the event is the MW Chapter newly approved Mentor Program. Both programs are available online now.
Dr. Tze-chong Li and Mr. Peter Wang, two of CALA respected founders, came to the meeting. At the event they recalled the scenario about 30 years ago when they got together and discussed how to build up an association of our own, which has now become CALA. They have done a lot for the development of the CALA. Today they are still here to support us. They deserve a solute.
Another distinguished person at the event is Ms. Sharon Hogan, a life member of the CALA, University Librarian of the University of Illinois Libraries (UIC Library). She has become a CALA member since 1993 and has been very supportive ever since.
Among attendees, there are retired librarians, current GLIS students, and librarians of all kinds. Some are from academic Libraries, some from public libraries, and some from special libraries. We thank all of our attendees for supporting this event.
The Chinese American Librarians Association (CALA) Midwest (MW) Chapter has over 90 members in 12 Midwest states. More than half of them are in Illinois. There are still many Chinese American librarians at large in the state. We hope to reach out more next time in the near future.
