On June 1st, our Chapter's 2002 Annual Program has been successfully
held at the University of Illinois at Chicago. About forty people have
participated this one-day program. At the program, Dr. Lee, Hwa-wei,
key-note speaker, Dean Emeritus, Ohio University Libraries and
three other panelists, Sandra Balderrama, Director of ALA Diversity
Office, Haipeng Li from Ohio Oberlin College and Jun-lin Pan from
Northern Illinois University, have given an eye-opening and very touching
speech with topics on knowledge management, diversity, building a bridge
with the outside world and promoting Chinese materials to Chinese
users. The four interest groups in the afternoon also provided a good
opportunity for participants learning some new things and asked questions
in CJK/OCLC, international exchange, CORC, and e-skills led by four
specialists Shuh-Jiuan Chen, Shuyong Jiang, Xudong Jin, and , Li Fu. The
whole program is held in a very warm and friendly atmosphere from the
beginning to the end.
The Program provided a good chance for people to exchange and share
new ideas. Participants feel that we need this kind of opportunity to get
together and it can not be solely replaced by e-communications.
Two local Chinese newspapers and one Chinese TV station have gathered
the news at the Program and interviewed our speakers.
