College advising policy, philosophy, and/or statement:
Prior to admission to the College of Nursing , advice on acceptance of transfer credit is available in the college's Office of Academic Programs. Following admission, students are assigned an advisor who will assist them with course and career planning. Mandatory advising is required each semester.
Is advising required in the college?
All nursing students are required to meet with their assigned advisor every semester prior to registration. An advising hold, which prevents registration, will remain on a student's account until he/she meets with his advisor.
Does your college have school/departmental-level advising for undergraduates?
No. Undergraduate nursing students are advised directly through the college's Office of Academic Programs.
Describe how advisors are assigned to students:
Undergraduate nursing students are randomly assigned to an advisor who is an Office of Academic Programs staff member.
Procedure for scheduling advising appointments:
Students are notified when it is time to schedule an advising appointment to discuss registration. At any time, students are welcome to schedule an appointment with their advisor and can do so by contacting him/her via email or phone.
Describe any walk-in or open advising for students:
Students are encouraged to schedule an appointment to meet with an advisor. Walk-ins are accommodated when possible.
Typically, when does the college advisor first have contact with an advisee?
Typically, students will meet their assigned advisor at orientation.
