Describe how your services complement college- or department-based advising
LARES advisors assist students in course selection, financial aid, and graduation requirements. The advisor also takes a holistic approach to the student's educational and career plan.
How do you assign counselors to students?
Each of our advisors has a specific area of concentration. Students with specific educational goals are encouraged to make appointments with the appropriate advisor. Students have the option of meeting with an advisor of their choice.
Procedure for scheduling appointments:
LARES advisors are available to meet with students on a walk-in basis but appointments are strongly recommended due to the high volume of students we serve. Appointments can be scheduled by calling (312) 996-3356 or at the reception desk.
Additional information or advice for students:
Students are encouraged to schedule advising appointments prior to registration and well before registration day. It is important for students to meet with their advisor at least once during the semester in addition to registration. Our Academic Skills Program (ASP) courses are available for supplemental instruction in mathematics and writing. Students facing academic difficulty are also encouraged to utilize our tutoring services.
Typically, when does a staff member in your office first have contact with students?
Initial contact with students is made at the high school level during a school visit or recruiting event. LARES advisors work closely with prospective students and establish a strong relationship that continues throughout the student’s college career.
