Describe how your services complement college- or department-based advising:
Students who are unsure of their majors and/or careers need assistance to identify and explore their options at UIC. The most difficult student to advise is one who hasn't decided on a major. Some students who have chosen a major need information about the types of jobs that they will be able to pursue after graduation.
Please see the Career Services Web site careers.ocs.uic.edu for a complete description of our services that complement college- and department-based advising.
How do you assign advisors or counselors to students?
Four assistant directors have primary responsibility for students from specific colleges but they also work with students from any college at UIC.
Procedure for scheduling appointments:
Call (312) 996-2300 to schedule an appointment. We also have drop-in hours to review completed resumes and to answer questions that do not require a lot of time. The schedule for drop-in hours is available at careers.ocs.uic.edu .
Additional information or advice for students:
Please take advantage of the many scheduled workshops and programs throughout the year. If there is something else that you need, do not hesitate to call us.
Typically, when does a staff member in your office first have contact with students?
While we do see some prospective students and their parents, our primary point of contact with freshmen is at orientation and later with seniors or graduate students as they prepare to leave UIC.
