Medical Center Clinical PAF Processing Office

There are many entities within the University that aid investigators to accomplish the myriad steps from the inception of an idea or hypothesis to the completion of a research project.   The Clinical PAF Processing Office is one of these entities, and it has a relatively narrow focus.   Functioning within University of Illinois Medical Center at Chicago Hospital Administration, its main goals are to improve efficiency, communication and coordinate efforts between departments, schools, and the financial elements of the Medical Center when its resources are used for research purposes. These processes include:

  • Creating standard operating procedures for the financial administration of grants and contracts
  • Acting as the office of record for all grants and contracts utilizing Medical Center resources
  • Creating and maintaining an informational website
  • Helping negotiate adjustments and discounts for Medical Center resources to facilitate the writing of proposals
  • Tracking the assignment of Patient Account financial accounts that will be used to bill the research account
  • Working with internal and external auditors to document the appropriate handling of research funds for Medical Center services
