Academic Industry RelationsAcademic-Industry cooperation has a long history in the U.S. Successful collaborations can facilitate economic returns to public research programs and improve the U.S. research and development (R&D) enterprise. At a time when governments are asking universities to be engines of economic growth, the desire to generate academic-industry collaborations is great. However, getting to the point where these relationships can grow, and grow dramatically, is not easy. The ability of a university and a company to work jointly in research depends upon their agreement regarding the research and its related legal and business terms. A successful relationship can lead to a well-prepared next-generation workforce, the transfer of basic research discoveries into commercial applications, and increased U.S. competitiveness. To further academic-industry relationships at UIC, the OVCR cooperates with industry associations; non-profit organizations that promote technology-based economic development; city, state and federal agencies; and other organizations that seek to promote successful academic-industry relationships. This website provides faculty, students and others interested in academic-industry relationships with relevant events, workshops, conferences, and other opportunities to engage industry and explore opportunities. |
