Academic Industry Relations

Academic-Industry cooperation has a long history in the U.S.   Successful collaborations can facilitate economic returns to public research programs and improve the U.S. research and development (R&D) enterprise.  At a time when governments are asking universities to be engines of economic growth, the desire to generate academic-industry collaborations is great.  However, getting to the point where these relationships can grow, and grow dramatically, is not easy.

The ability of a university and a company to work jointly in research depends upon their agreement regarding the research and its related legal and business terms.  A successful relationship can lead to a well-prepared next-generation workforce, the transfer of basic research discoveries into commercial applications, and increased U.S. competitiveness.

To further academic-industry relationships at UIC, the OVCR cooperates with industry associations; non-profit organizations that promote technology-based economic development; city, state and federal agencies; and other organizations that seek to promote successful academic-industry relationships.

This website provides faculty, students and others interested in academic-industry relationships with relevant events, workshops, conferences, and other opportunities to engage industry and explore opportunities.

The Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research looks forward to working collaboratively with faculty and industry leaders to initiate and grow successful research relationships.
