Location, Directions and Hotel Information

The conference will be held in Room 542 (Brainard Conference Room) of the Searle Conference Center located on the fifth floor of the Professional Building at Rush University Medical Center (1725 West Harrison Street.)

The Searle Conference Center at Rush
When entering Rush from the valet parking area in front of the Professional Building, take Elevator II to the fifth floor and you will be at the conference center.

From the main parking garage, go to the fourth level in the garage to enter Rush. Continue forward past the guard station and enter the walkway that links the Armour Academic Building to the Professional Building. The walkway makes an immediate left turn and then a right turn. Once you have reached the Professional Building, you are at Elevator II. Take it to the fifth floor to get to the Searle Conference Center.

Hotel Information:

The closest hotel to Rush is the Chicago Marriott at the Medical District/UIC
As of 10/27/06 they had at least 9 rooms available at $159 + tax per night for either the night of the 16th or the night of the 17th. The hotel is across the street from Rush and has an attached restaurant.

Many downtown hotels are available and will require use of the “El” or a short taxi ride to Rush (~$10-15 each way).

Driving Directions:

From downtown Chicago:

  • West on Congress Parkway, which becomes the Eisenhower Expressway (I-290)
  • Exit at Ashland/Paulina (Exit 28B)
  • Left (south) on Ashland Ave. for approximately two blocks
  • Right (west) on Harrison St. for approximately a quarter of a block
  • Be prepared to make a left in the first quarter of the block (Harrison) for visitor parking

From the north:

  • South on the Kennedy Expressway (I-90/94) to
  • Exit 50A toward Ogden Ave.; stay straight to go onto N. Racine Ave.
  • Turn slight right onto N. Ogden Ave.
  • Take Ogden Ave. to Ashland Ave.
  • Make a left (heading south) onto Ashland Ave.
  • Right (west) on Harrison St. for approximately a quarter of a block
  • Be prepared to make a left in the first quarter of the block (Harrison) for visitor parking

From the south:

  • North on the Dan Ryan Expressway (I90/94)
  • West on the Eisenhower Expressway (I-290)/Congress Parkway (to “West Suburbs”)
  • Exit at Ashland/Paulina (Exit 28B)
  • Left (south) on Ashland Ave. for approximately two blocks
  • Right (west) on Harrison St. for approximately a quarter of a block
  • Be prepared to make a left in the first quarter of the block (Harrison) for visitor parking
  • Construction alternate:
    • Follow Ashland Ave. Detour (north)
    • Left (west) on Harrison St. 

From the southwest:

  • North on the Stevenson Expressway (I-55)
  • Exit west on the Dan Ryan Expressway (I90/94)
  • West on the Eisenhower Expressway (I-290)/Congress Parkway (to “West Suburbs”)
  • Exit at Ashland/Paulina (Exit 28B)
  • Left (south) on Ashland Ave. for approximately two blocks
  • Right (west) on Harrison St. for approximately a quarter of a block
  • Be prepared to make a left in the first quarter of the block (Harrison) for visitor parking
  • Construction alternate:
    • Exit Stevenson at Damen/Ashland (Exit 290)
    • Left (north) on Ashland Ave. for approximately 2 miles
    • Left (west) on Harrison St.

From the west:

  • East on the Eisenhower Expressway (I-290)
  • Exit at Ashland/Paulina (Exit 28B); you will be on West Congress Parkway when you exit
  • Continue on Congress Parkway for approximately one block
  • Right (south) on Ashland Ave. for one block
  • Right (west) on Harrison St. for approximately a quarter of a block
  • Be prepared to make a left in the first quarter of the block (Harrison) for visitor parking

Visitor Parking at Rush:

Main Parking Garage
There is an enclosed garage on the southeast corner of Paulina and Harrison streets, which connects by covered walkway to the Atrium and Professional Building.

Parking for the Disabled
Reserved parking for people with disabilities is available on the fourth and fifth levels of Section A in the garage. A valid disabled license plate or sticker must be visible. Disabled people with proper identification also receive a discounted rate for valet parking.
Valet Parking
Valet parking is available at the following buildings:

  • Atrium (312-942-7442)
  • Johnston R. Bowman Health Center (312-942-7000)
  • Professional Building (312-942-3720)

Getting to Rush by Public Transportation:

  • “El” Trains

    The Medical Center is served by the Pink Line 54th/Cermak branch and the Blue Line Forest Park branch and, during the morning and evening “rush,” the 54th/Cermak branch of the Blue Line.

    • Pink Line
      Take the 54th/Cermak branch of the Pink Line train to the Polk St. station and walk north on Paulina St., which is to your right as you leave the station. Make a left on Paulina to travel north to the Medical Center. The Pink Line connects with the Green, Brown, Orange and Purple Line trains, as well as Metra, through the loop elevated system.
    • Blue Line
      You may also take the Forest Park branch train to the Medical Center station. Once you arrive at the Medical Center station go the exit on Paulina St. (walk up the long ramp going toward the city), turn right and walk one block to Congress Parkway. Cross Congress at the light. The Atrium Building entrance, 1650 W. Congress Parkway, is at the left. The 54th/Cermak branch of the Blue Line will also service the Polk St. station, during the morning and evening “rush” periods.

      The Blue Line trains main connection is with the Red Line through the subway system. It also connects with the Green, Brown, Orange and Purple Line trains, as well as Metra, through the loop elevated system.
