Roybal Grant Competition

Center for Research on Health and Aging

The Roybal Center has been advised that is it is possible to obtain funding for a 6th year. We are therefore requesting letters of intent from Researchers and Doctoral Candidates to apply for Roybal Center pilot funding. We will be able to fund one to two pilots at the level of up to $50,000 each.

The Letter of Intent should define the problem, describe methods used, explain why pilot funding is needed, and describe future work that will be accomplished to follow up pilot findings. Ideally, the pilot should address health promotion among older adults and/or the translation and diffusion of evidence-based health promotion interventions for older adults.

Types of health promotion for older adults may include exercise, diet, substance abuse, sleep, stress and participation in health screenings as well as risk factor reductions across multiple behaviors. Studies of factors that enhance motivation for behavior change, and studies that examine the translation of evidence based programs into sustainable activities are all appropriate for consideration.

In order, to meet our sponsor's requirements for funding, we need to receive letters of intent by Friday, April 4th 2008. We know this is a very short turnaround but this is an excellent funding opportunity.

For more information on the Pilot Grant Competitions, contact:
Louise Martinez, MPH, Center Coordinator, at lmarti5@uic.edu or 312-413-9831

Note: Doctoral candidates must complete their preliminary examinations prior to the initiation of funding.

Full pilot grant applications are not available yet.
