Limited Competition Process

The following is the standard process followed in all limited competitions:

1. Announcement disseminated by OVCR RDS to faculty via Departmental Research Deans, Department Heads mail distribution (DDDH), Mass Mail, and the Limited Competitions email list . Notices are also posted to the OVCR Limited Competitions Web Page.
2. Faculty usually will have ten (10) business days to submit a non-binding letter of intent (eLOI) form to RDS@uic.edu.
3. If the number of LOIs received is equal to or less than the number of submissions allowed, the white paper requirement will be waived and respondent(s) authorized to apply to sponsor.
4. If the number of LOIs received exceeds the number of submissions allowed, those who have submitted LOIs will be notified to proceed with white paper phase of process.
5. Faculty are to submit one (1) PDF file of required white paper content to RDS@uic.edu no later than 3:00 p.m. on the internal deadline date.
6. Proposals are reviewed and ranked by an internal peer review committee .
7. RDS will provide formal notification to the selected candidate(s) and authorize ORS to submit candidate's proposal to sponsor.
8. RDS disseminates results and review comments to applicants.
9. RDS staff are available to help nominee prepare final proposal for submission to sponsor.

Peer Review Committee

Reviewers will be drawn from a standing committee composed of faculty from UIC's 13 colleges. OVCR may also seek additional expertise from ad hoc reviewers. Faculty who wish to serve as reviewers should email Tony Halford at ahalford@uic.edu and include a list of keywords which best summarize your research interests and expertise. Please attach a short CV.

PI Responsibility

PIs who have been selected to submit their proposal to the sponsor are expected to notify OVCR when their proposal has been successfully transmitted. PIs must contact OVCR well before the sponsor's due date should they anticipate problems meeting the deadline. PI is responsible for adhering to all ORS proposal submission policies.
