Arnold and Mabel Beckman Foundation - Scholars Program

Internal Competition Completed

Principal Investigators Selected:

  • Preston Snee, Chemistry

Program Summary

UIC has been invited to submit one proposal to the Beckman Scholars program. The program supports research activities by exceptionally talented, full-timed undergraduate students pursuing studies in either chemistry, biochemistry, the biological and medical sciences or some combination of these subjects. Research activities shall be conducted under the guidance of full-time UIC faculty member mentor(s). The research work performed by the Scholar shall be deemed to be publishable by the student's faculty mentor. Such activities shall be performed part-time (ten hours per week) during one academic year and full time over two summers (ten weeks each summer) immediately before and after the academic year research experience.

NOTE:  These are institutional awards – the official UIC applicant must be a full time faculty member.  Applications will be evaluated by the Beckman Foundation based upon factors including the track record of faculty mentor(s) and the adequacy of the proposed student evaluation and selection criteria.   In other words, the students would be selected AFTER an award is made to UIC.  Applications may include up to 15 faculty mentors.

Awards: $19,300 per student, assuming he/she works two full-time summers and one part-time academic year.   Award that must be used over a 3 year period. UIC is eligible to support a total of six students.

UIC has been invited to submit 1 proposal.
