U.S. Department of State: Global Connections and Exchange Program ECA-PE-C-PY-10-05

Program Summary

The Global Connections and Exchange (GCE) program utilizes technology to create an American presence in areas where citizens have little opportunity to travel or participate in exchange programs. Through webchats and discussion boards, foreign youth participate in dialogue with American peers about their lives, families and communities. In addition, a theme-based curriculum will increase understanding of issues relevant to both U.S. and overseas participants. A successful project will focus on a specific theme by initiating a wide range of on-line and off-line activities throughout the academic year. Applicants must choose one of the following themes:

1. Environment;
2. Rule of Law;
3. Social Entrepreneurship;
4. Media Literacy;
5. Food Security.

Awards: State Department plans to make three total awards, averaging $220,000 each.

Limits: Applicants may propose to host only one regional project listed under this competition.

Letter of Intent Instructions

OVCR may reserve submission slots for previously submitted but unfunded proposals that received highly competitive ratings from the external sponsor. These will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis by the Vice Chancellor. For consideration, scanned copies of your complete reviews (not just summary) must be included with LOI.

Depending upon the number of LOIs submitted, OVCR might be required to facilitate an internal peer review process to select UIC’s submission(s) to this program. White paper instructions will be posted if necessary.

4. Complete the form fields.
5. After completing the form, click “Save” then click “Submit to RDS@uic.edu”.
