National Center for Family Literacy: Toyota Family Literacy Program
Program Summary
The National Center for Family Literacy (NCFL) seeks applications for a competitive grant award of $600,000 comprised of direct funding and support services to implement the highly successful Toyota Family Literacy Program (TFLP). Five school districts will ultimately be chosen.
NCFL is specifically seeking school districts that:
-Will implement the program in three elementary schools that provide K-3 education
-Demonstrate significant need for family literacy programming to serve an at-risk population of Hispanic and other immigrant families
-Provide a statement of support from the district superintendent
-Provide a statement of support from the local mayor or head of city council
-Demonstrate capability to deliver family literacy services beginning in the fall of 2009
TFLP development includes: Adult Education/ESL, Children’s Education, Parenting Education, and Interactive Literacy Activities for Parents and Children.
UIC is restricted to one application per school system (sponsor will accept only one application by each school system).

- By submitting this form, applicant attests that s/he has read and meets the sponsor's eligibility criteria for this program. The LOI can be emailed to RDS@uic.edu, Attn: Chang Lee.
- OVCR may reserve submission slots for previously submitted but unfunded proposals that received highly competitive ratings from the external sponsor. These will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis by the Vice Chancellor. For consideration, scanned copies of your complete reviews (not just summary) must be included with LOI.

Depending upon the number of LOIs submitted, OVCR might be required to facilitate an internal peer review process to select UIC’s submission(s) to this program. White paper instructions will be issued to those submitting LOIs, if necessary.
