NIH Bridges to the Doctorate
for Underrepresented Students (R25)
Program Description
The purpose of this funding opportunity to establish
partnerships between institutions granting a terminal Master’s
degree and Ph.D. degree granting institutions to develop programs for
Master’s degree students with academic potential from groups underrepresented
in the biomedical research arena of the country (underrepresented groups)
and/or from populations disproportionately affected by health disparities
(health disparity populations) to prepare them for successful completion
of doctoral degree programs in the sciences relevant of biomedicine.
Awards
Direct costs are limited to $200,000 per year for no more than five
years.

Limited Competition Instructions
Submit one electronic copy of a White Paper containing
the following:
- One (1) Page cover page with following information:
- Name & departmental
affiliation of PI and Co-PIs
- Sponsor and sponsor program name
- Title of White Paper
- PI Contact Information
- Unit Business Manager or Grant Coordinator contact information
- Optional:
- Identify potential individuals to review proposal
- reviewers should not have a personal stake
in outcome of this competition and ideally
should not be from same unit as
applicant.
- Identify reviewers to exclude
- this information will remain confidential.
- Note if this is a resubmission. If so, attach any peer
review comments received from either external sponsor or a prior
UIC internal competition.
- Three (3) page narrative
addressing:
- How your proposal addresses the intent of
Program Announcement
- What PI & team expect to accomplish
- Expected overall significance
Page limits INCLUDE any charts, figures, tables, references, etc
- Attach the following for PI and
each CoPI:
- Two page CV
- 1 page current and pending support
Narrative must be 12-point font; minimum acceptable margin is 1 inch (2.5
cm) all around.
