NIH - Institutional Patient-Oriented Career Development Programs in the Environmental Health Sciences (K12)

Program Description

The purpose of this RFA is to support the early career development of patient oriented researchers in the environmental health sciences. Respondents should propose a multidisciplinary Career Development program centered on a specific aspect of disease etiology, pathogenesis, progression, and/or epidemiology which will prepare physicians and other doctorally trained scientists to pursue a research career in patient oriented research which has a focus on an environmental exposure relevant to the mission of the NIEHS.

An institution may submit only one application.

Awards

Individual award amounts expected to range from $464,000 to $580,000 for the first year, rising to a range of $833,000 to $1,115,000 when fully implemented. Awards are for a five-year period.

Limited Competition Instructions

If requested, submit one electronic copy of a White Paper containing the following:

  1. One (1) Page cover page with following information:
    1. Name & departmental affiliation of PI and Co-PIs
    2. Sponsor and sponsor program name
    3. Title of White Paper
    4. PI Contact Information
    5. Optional:
      1. Identify potential individuals to review proposal - reviewers should not have a personal stake in outcome of this competition and ideally should not be from same unit as applicant.
      2. Identify reviewers to exclude - this information will remain confidential.
  2. Three (3) page narrative addressing:
    1. How your proposal addresses the intent of Program Announcement
    2. What PI & team expect to accomplish
    3. Expected overall significance
  3. Attach the following for PI and each CoPI:
    1. Two page CV
    2. 1 page current and pending support

Narrative must be 12-point font; minimum acceptable margin is 1 inch (2.5 cm) all around.
Unless otherwise noted, no budget is required
