Building Interdisciplinary Research Careers in Women’s Health (K12) RFA-OD-09-006

Program Summary

The NIH Office of Research on Women's Health (ORWH) and its cosponsors invite institutional career development award applications for Building Interdisciplinary Research Careers in Women's Health (BIRCWH) Career Development Programs, hereafter termed "Programs." Programs will support mentored research career development of junior faculty members, known as BIRCWH Scholars, who have recently completed clinical training or postdoctoral fellowships, and who will be engaged in interdisciplinary basic, translational, behavioral, clinical, and/or health services research relevant to women's health or sex/gender factors.

The NIH Office of Research on Women's Health and its cosponsors intend to commit approximately $5 million in total costs [Direct plus Facilities and Administrative (F&A) costs] for this initiative in FY 2010.  Up to 10 new and/or competing continuation awards are anticipated. The total project period for an application submitted in response to this opportunity may not exceed five years. Direct costs are limited to $500,000 total costs for a five-year period. F&A costs will be included at a standard level of 8%.

  • By submitting this form, applicant attests that s/he has read and meets the sponsor's eligibility criteria for this program. The LOI can be emailed to RDS@uic.edu, Attn: Jennifer Czak.
  • OVCR may reserve submission slots for previously submitted but unfunded proposals that
    received highly competitive ratings from the external sponsor. These will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis by the Vice Chancellor. For consideration, scanned copies of your complete reviews (not just summary) must be included with LOI.

Depending upon the number of LOIs submitted, OVCR might be required to facilitate an internal peer review process to select UIC’s submission(s) to this program. White paper instructions will be issued to those submitting LOIs, if necessary.
