International Research Ethics Education and Curriculum
Development Award (R25) PAR-10-174

Program Summary

This FOA issued by the Fogarty International Center (FIC) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH),requests Research Education Grant (R25) applications from institutions/organizations that propose to develop masters level curricula and provide educational opportunities for developing country academics, researchers and health professionals in ethics related to performing research involving human subjects in international resource poor settings.  

Applicants can request up to five years of support for up to $230,000 direct costs per year for a new application for a comprehensive masters level curriculum development and educational programs.  Renewal application comprehensive training programs may request up to five years of support for up to $276,000 direct costs annually.  Alternatively, developing country applicants can request up to two years of support for up to $23,000 direct costs per year for program planning activities in preparation to apply for comprehensive program support in the future.

The R25 application Research Education Program Plan (uploaded using the Research Strategy section) of the PHS398 Research Plan Component (SF424 Application Guide, Section 5.5) may not exceed 25 pages, including tables, graphs, figures, diagrams, and charts.

UIC may submit only one application and only one new or renewing program will be supported at an institution at any given time.

OVCR may reserve submission slots for previously submitted but unfunded proposals that received highly competitive ratings from the external sponsor. These will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis by the Vice Chancellor. For consideration, scanned copies of your complete reviews (not just summary) must be included with LOI.

Depending upon the number of LOIs submitted, OVCR might be required to facilitate an internal peer review process to select UIC’s submission(s) to this program. White paper instructions will be posted if necessary.

  1. Download the file directly to your computer or to a disk, right click on the link, then select "save link as" or "save target as" from the dropdown options.
  2. Open eLOI.
  3. Position the hand pointer inside a form field and click.

  4. Complete the form fields.
