NEI Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award (NRSA) Institutional Research Training Grants (T32) for Statistical Genetics and Genome Informatics RFA-EY-10-001

Program Summary

The NEI Institutional Research Training Grants (T32) for Statistical Genetics and Genome Informatics is a Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award program that is intended to support predoctoral and postdoctoral training at institutions having the potential to develop meritorious training programs in genomic medicine, computational genomics, and statistical genetics. The goal of this program is to initiate a training program to develop ophthalmic statistical genetics and bioinformatics research skills critical for investigators seeking to identify genes and genetic variations underlying ocular diseases. This training program is designed to attract individuals in early career stages, in order to increase their knowledge and awareness of research in the genetics of ophthalmic disorders, and to encourage them to pursue research career opportunities in these scientific fields. Such training will help meet a growing need for investigators trained in computational genomics related to basic biomedical, clinical, and translational ophthalmic research. The NEI plans a long-term commitment to this area. Trainee appointments will be determined by the institution and conducted in a manner that will include the recruitment of individuals from diverse backgrounds.

Awards are expected to be up to $300,000 annual direct costs. Grants may be for project periods up to five years in duration.

UIC is restricted to one application.

  • OVCR may reserve submission slots for previously submitted but unfunded proposals that received highly competitive ratings from the external sponsor. These will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis by the Vice Chancellor. For consideration, scanned copies of your complete reviews (not just summary) must be included with LOI.

LOI form: http://tigger.uic.edu/depts/ovcr/research/funding/forms/0600.doc

Depending upon the number of LOIs submitted, OVCR might be required to facilitate an internal peer review process to select UIC’s submission(s) to this program. White paper instructions will be issued to those submitting LOIs, if necessary.

Please contact Jennifer Czak at jpaliga@uic.edu 6-2590 with any questions.

If an authorized principal investigator is not listed above, please consider the limited competition still open. Contact RDS@uic.edu for further information.
