NIH – Silvio O. Conte Digestive Diseases Research Core Centers

Program Description

The Silvio O. Conte Digestive Diseases Research Core Centers are part of an integrated program of digestive and liver diseases-related research support provided by the NIDDK. The objective of the Core Centers is to bring together clinical and basic science investigators in a manner that will enhance and extend the effectiveness of research related to digestive and liver diseases and their complications. A Core Center must be an identifiable unit within a single university medical center or a consortium of cooperating institutions, including an affiliated university. An existing program of excellence in biomedical research in the area of digestive or liver diseases is required. This research must be in the form of NIH research projects, program projects, or other peer-reviewed research that is already funded at the time of submission of a Center grant application. .
The P30 mechanism will be used.

Only one application is permitted.

Awards

An applicant may request a project period of up to five years and a budget for direct costs up to $750,000 per year.

Limited Competition Instructions

If requested, submit one electronic copy of a White Paper containing the following:

  1. One (1) Page cover page with following information:
    1. Name & departmental affiliation of PI and Co-PIs
    2. Sponsor and sponsor program name
    3. Title of White Paper
    4. PI Contact Information
    5. Optional:
      1. Identify potential individuals to review proposal - reviewers should not have a personal stake in outcome of this competition and ideally should not be from same unit as applicant.
      2. Identify reviewers to exclude - this information will remain confidential.
  2. Three (3) page narrative addressing:
    1. How your proposal addresses the intent of Program Announcement
    2. What PI & team expect to accomplish
    3. Expected overall significance
  3. Attach the following for PI and each CoPI:
    1. Two page CV
    2. 1 page current and pending support

Narrative must be 12-point font; minimum acceptable margin is 1 inch (2.5 cm) all around.
Unless otherwise noted, no budget is required
