NSF - Nanotechnology Undergraduate Education (NUE) in Engineering - 12-534Program SummaryThe Nanotechnology Undergraduate Education (NUE) in Engineering program aims to integrate advancements in nanoscale science, engineering, and technology into the undergraduate engineering curricula. The NUE in Engineering program provides funding for projects that will address the educational challenges of these emerging fields and generate practical ways of introducing nanotechnology into undergraduate engineering education with a focus on devices and systems and/or on social, economic, and ethical issues relevant to nanotechnology. Given the worldwide expansion of research and education in NSE, international collaborations that advance underlying NSE education goals and strengthen U.S. activities are encouraged. The FY 2012 solicitation is focused on nanoscale engineering education with relevance to devices and systems, and/or on the societal, ethical, economic and/or environmental issues relevant to nanotechnology. Each award will be up to a maximum of $200,000 for two years. Application Limits UIC may submit 1 proposal from the college/department of Engineering as the lead institution. UIC MAY submit a second proposal as the lead institution only if it is focused on the societal, ethical, economic and/or environmental issues relevant to nanotechnology. An individual may serve as the Principal Investigator (PI) or co-Principal Investigator (co-PI) on no more than one proposal. Letter of IntentNote: Please indicate in section #10 of the e-loi form whether this application is to be focused on the societal, ethical, economic and/or environmental issues relevant to nanotechnology. OVCR may reserve submission slots for previously submitted but unfunded proposals that received highly competitive ratings from the external sponsor. These will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis by the Vice Chancellor. For consideration, scanned copies of your complete reviews (not just summary) must be included with LOI. RDS will contact those who submitted LOIs with further instructions regarding the limited competitions. Depending upon the number of LOIs submitted, OVCR might be required to facilitate an internal peer review process to select UIC’s submission(s) to this program. White paper instructions will be posted if necessary. eLOI Form & Instructions – Adobe Acrobat Requirements
