NSF – Robert Noyce Scholarship Program

Program Description

The Robert Noyce Scholarship program seeks to encourage talented science, technology, engineering, and mathematics majors and professionals to become K-12 mathematics and science teachers. The program provides funds to institutions of higher education to support scholarships, stipends, and programs for students who commit to teaching in high-need K-12 school districts. Scholarship amounts for STEM majors must be at least $10,000 per year and recipients may receive up to two years of scholarship support. Stipends of at least $10,000 are also available for a maximum of one year for science, technology, engineering, or mathematics professionals who hold a baccalaureate, masters, or doctoral degree in science, mathematics, or engineering and enroll in a teacher certification program.

Vary by program track.

Phase 1 proposals are invited from institutions that have not been previously funded under this program or are requesting funding to support Noyce Scholars from a department or academic unit that has not participated in a previous Noyce Award. The Maximum total budget for Phase I proposals is $750,000 with a project duration of up to 4 years.

Phase II allows two options: Scholarship and Stipend projects (S&S) and Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) projects. The maximum budget for Phase II proposals is $750,000 for four years.

Limited Competition Instructions

Submit one electronic copy of a White Paper containing the following:

  1. One (1) Page cover page with following information:
    1. Name & departmental affiliation of PI and Co-PIs
    2. Sponsor and sponsor program name
    3. Title of White Paper
    4. PI Contact Information
    5. Unit Business Manager or Grant Coordinator contact information
    6. Optional:
      1. Identify potential individuals to review proposal - reviewers should not have a personal stake in outcome of this competition and ideally should not be from same unit as applicant.
      2. Identify reviewers to exclude - this information will remain confidential.
      3. Note if this is a resubmission. If so, attach any peer review comments received from either external sponsor or a prior UIC internal competition.
  2. Three (3) page narrative addressing:
    1. How your proposal addresses the intent of Program Announcement
    2. What PI & team expect to accomplish
    3. Expected overall significance

    Page limits INCLUDE any charts, figures, tables, references, etc

  3. Attach the following for PI and each CoPI:
    1. Two page CV
    2. 1 page current and pending support

Narrative must be 12-point font; minimum acceptable margin is 1 inch (2.5 cm) all around.
Unless otherwise noted, no budget is required.
