William T. Grant Foundation Scholars ProgramProgram SummaryThe William T. Grant Scholars Program is designed to foster career development among promising early-career researchers trained across a range of social, behavioral, and health sciences. The award is designed to expand a researcher’s expertise. The foundation supports research to understand and improve the settings of youth ages 8 to 25 in the United States. “Settings” are defined as the proximal environments in which youth experience daily life. These settings would include but are not limited to schools, youth-serving organizations, neighborhoods, families, and peer groups. Sponsor is focused upon two areas related to youth settings:
Sponsor limits UIC to one applicant per college. If more than one LOI is received from a college, OVCR will work with respective Associate Dean for Research to make the selection. Awards$350,000 over a five year period. EligibilityAny discipline is eligible. Applicant’s ability to conduct and communicate creative, sophisticated research is demonstrated through prior training and publications. The quality of publications is more important than the quantity. Applicants must have received their terminal degree within seven years of submitting their application. In many scholarly disciplines, this translates to a maximum of seven years following the award of the doctoral degree and includes time spent as a post-doctoral fellow. In medicine, the seven year maximum is dated from the completion of the first residency. The award may not be used as a post-doctoral fellowship.
