Researcher Award Nomination - Wolf Foundation 2010 Wolf Prizes in the Sciences

Program Description

UIC has been invited to submit candidates for the 2010 Wolf Prizes in the Sciences award program.   The foundation awards prizes to outstanding scientists and artists for their achievements in the benefit of mankind and brotherly relations among peoples, regardless of nationality, race, color, religion, sex or political views. This year’s fields are:

  • SCIENCE: Agriculture, Mathematics, Medicine, and Physics.
  • ARTS: Architecture

Awards:  The prize in each area consists of a diploma and $100,000.  Awards are to individuals, not institutions.  Awards shall be presented by the President of the State of Israel in a special ceremony to take place in May 2010 in Jerusalem.  Nominators are therefore requested not to propose any candidates that, to the best of her/his knowledge, for either health or any other reason, may not be able to comply with this requirement.

Nominations

  • Nominations will be reviewed by a subcommittee of the Campus Research Board, which will recommend candidates to the Vice Chancellor for Research. The candidates must be deserving of the award.  The committee/VCR may elect not to nominate anyone. 
  • Self nominations are not allowed.  
  • By submitting a nomination, Nominator attests that to the best of her/his knowledge, nominee will be able to meet award requirement.
  • Two candidates may be nominated for a joint prize.

UIC internal nomination process is based upon the Wolf Foundation Nomination forms. This link is provided for reference only.  Not all of the information requested on the official nomination form is required for the internal review.  As such, please do not use the Wolf Foundation nomination forms for this stage but, instead, follow the instructions below.

Submit one electronic (.pdf) copy containing the following information to rds@uic.edu, attention Mr. Anthony Halford by deadline noted above.  Do not send multiple files.  
  1. One (1) page nomination should include:
    1. Sponsor and program name  (Wolf Foundation, 2010 Wolf Prizes)
    2. Nominee(s) name, departmental affiliation, and contact information
    3. Field of Nomination (from list above)
    4. Nominator name, departmental affiliation, contact information
    5. Secondary contact who can provide administrative information in Nominator’s absence (e.g. department business manager, program coordinator, grants coordinator, etc.)
    6. Brief description of Scientific Achievements, clearly and concisely stating only those individual achievements of candidate that merit the prize.
      1. One (1) additional page may be added for joint nominations.  If a joint application is for work done in collaboration, please state this in the opening of the brief description.  You may wish to add comments on the candidate’s individual role.  Otherwise, the brief description of work done in collaboration need not be duplicated on both pages
      2. Format: Minimum 12-point font; 1/2 inch margin all around
  2. 2 page CV or Biosketch for Nominee(s).  This should include education, main positions held, major honors and awards, and a list of most significant publications relevant to nomination.
