Active Nanostructures and Nanosystems (ANN)

REVISED NSF announcement released August 10, 2006. Please note changes in red.

NSF's Active Nanostructures and Nanosystems (ANN) is a program of collaborative research and education in the area of active nanostructures and nanosystems, and on the long-term social change associated with these innovations. The goal of this program is to support fundamental research and catalyze synergistic science and engineering research and education in several emerging areas of nanoscale science and technology.

This solicitation will provide support for Nanoscale Interdisciplinary Research Teams (NIRT) and Nanoscale Exploratory Research (NER). UIC is allowed to submit two (2) NIRT proposals and two (2) NER proposals. UIC may submit an additional NER proposal if it falls into the category of “Societal and Educational Issues Associated with Long-term Research Science and Engineering Advances". At least one of the NER proposals must have a PI or Co-PI at the level of Assistant Professor or equivalent.

We do not expect NSF to release its updated ANN Program Announcement until after UIC’s internal competition is completed. Any changes based upon the updated announcement will be dealt with administratively.

Awards

NIRT - $250,000 to $400,000 per year for four years.
NER - $130,000 for one year.

Please refer to NSF 06-595 for the purpose of the internal competition. That is located at http://www.nsf.gov/pubs/2006/nsf06595/nsf06595.htm
