Interdisciplinary Science & Engineering Materials Research Group Workshop (ISEMRG Workshop/Spring '08) Sponsored by UIC Colleges of Engineering and LAS

We want to announce the call for papers for the 1st ISEMRG Workshop to beheld at theUniversity of Illinois at Chicago, College of Engineering on April 16-17,2008. The event will take place at the new UIC Forum.

ISEMRG focuses on promoting active research cooperation among UICresearchers, and lays the foundation for outstanding research, intellectuallatitude, strong interdisciplinary commitment, and flexibility. Ultimately, our objective is to build up interdisciplinary research groups at UIC thatcan then be integrated in response to center grants to conduct synergistic, innovative materials research with active collaborations with industry, national laboratories, and other academic institutions. See http://www.uic.edu/isemrg/

The purpose of the Workshop is to develop interdisciplinary research nichesin areas related to health, energy, environment, and homeland security withemphasis in nanotechnology. In addition some emphasis will be placed on theintegration of research, education, and industry to maximize the advantagesof these new technologies for the new and practicing professionals.

The workshop will consist of three keynote lectures, technical presentationsand a finalpanel discussion. Technical papers are sought in all areas related tonanomaterials.Contributions in other interdisciplinary advanced materials areas are alsowelcome.

Topics may include:

  • Design & fabrication of nanomaterials.
  • Nanomaterials technology in health applications and biologicalprocesses.
  • Techniques for nanomaterial characterization and propertyassessements.
  • Nanoconcepts for applications in medicine, including drug delivery, and pharmaceuticals.
  • Environmental and health issues related to nanomaterials.
  • Advanced sustainable energy technologies.
  • Multifunctional materials and sensors.
