How to Strengthen Your
Grants

The speakers will speak on their experiences in reviewing grants.
Dr. DuBois will discuss how to improve the quality of your research
design and Dr. Beam will focus on how to strengthen the statistical
component of your proposal. Feel free to bring your lunch. If

Dr. Craig Beam, Professor and Director of
the Quantitative Biomedical Sciences Core, EpiBio and Director, Cancer
Center Biostatistics Core
Dr. David DuBois, Associate Professor, Community
Health Sciences
Craig Beam, PhD (11:00 AM to 12:00 PM)
Dr. Beam has
been funded extramurally by American Cancer Society,National Cancer
Institute, Dept of Defense, and the Agency for Healthcare Policy
and Research.
In addition, Dr. Beam has served on the Health Systems Research Study
Section of the Agency for Healthcare Policy and Research (AHCPR-now AHRQ)
for 4 years and has served and continue to serve as an ad hoc
reviewer for the National Cancer Institute.
David DuBois, PhD (12:00 PM to 1:00 PM)
Dr. DuBois is a well-funded and successful researcher who has received
research grants from the National Institute of Mental Health, the
U.S. Department of Education's Institute for Education Sciences,
private foundations, and state government. He also serves as a grant
reviewer for the William T. Grant Foundation and has been a
reviewer for the National Science Foundation.
