Workshop: How to Work with a StatisticianThe School of Public Health (SPH) Office of Research Services is hosting the following grant workshop in response to continued SPH faculty/student interest in strengthening the statistical component of grant proposals. (Very timely if you are planning to submit a proposal to NIH for the Feb. 1, 2006 deadline). Topic: How to Work with a Statistician Please rsvp to Julie Kong (jckong@uic.edu) if you are interested in attending. Science is very much a contrived crap shoot and anyone wanting to make a career out it should get to know a statistician as early as possible. This is because statisticians know how to engineer the risks inherent in conducting scientific research. UIC has recently made an important investment to provide statistical resources to health researchers. This investment is the result of collaboration between the School of Public Health, the College of Medicine and the Cancer Center. In this presentation, Dr. Beam will discuss how you can best access this new resource and how scientists can best work with statisticians to the mutual benefit of each other. Dr. Beam has served on the Health Systems Research Study Section of the Agency for Healthcare Policy and Research (AHCPR-now AHRQ) for 4 years and has served and continue to serve as an ad hoc reviewer for the National Cancer Institute. Dr. Beam is available for one-on-one brainstorming sessions on Wednesdays from 11am to 4pm. Craig A. Beam, PhD, Director
