Fringe benefits are any additional benefits given to employees on top of their base salary such as life or health insurance, retirement plans, etc. Fringe benefits change at the beginning of each fiscal year. Which rate you use is based on appointment status and rank. Please refer to the following

1. What is the fringe benefit
rate for most faculty and staff?
The majority of academic and non-academic faculty and staff with appointments
of 50% or more use 30.76%.
2. Why are there two rates
for graduate students and which one do I use?
Students registered for six or more hours of class use 2.35%. Students
registered for less then six hours of class use 10.00%.

The current fringe benefit rate should be used.

Do I keep the fringe benefit rates from the original award or change

The budget should reflect the current fringe benefit rates published
at the time of the application.
5. What rate do I use if my project extends beyond FY 13 projection?
For proposals that require fringe benefit projections beyond FY13, it is recommended that departments prepare their budgets using the applicable FY13 fringe benefit rates for FY14 and FY15.
