NIH Introduction
The National Institutes of Health is replacing paper grant
applications with electronic applications and has begun the transition
to require
electronic submission of grant applications via the online portal of
Grants.gov.
NIH is transitioning from the paper 398 application
form to a new electronic application form called the SF424 (R&R).
See Overview
of Electronic Submission via Grants.gov for more information.

Avoiding Common Errors
NIH Subaward or Consortium Proposals
- Process to complete subaward of consortium for Grants.gov submissions
- Send
the R&R Subaward Budget Attachment(s) Form to the Consortium
Entity. The Entity should complete the budget (for each period
of the proposal) and return it to the UIC (Rockford, Peoria) PI
or designee.
- In addition, the Entity should prepare the following
components
of its proposal to UIC:
- Cover Page Supplement Component
- Work description or brief research
plan of just its role
- Letter or Cover Page component (for the
subcontractors portion only) signed by Entity’s authorizing
official
The UIC PI may want to include the Senior/Key Person
Profile(s) Component of the Entity’s personnel
in the submission of the application through Grants.gov.
Note: These components will remain internal to the
UIC, and will be used to prepare the Subcontract
should the UIC proposal
be funded
by NIH. They
should
be attached to the UIC proposal that is routed
through to ORS.
Questions: Contact the ORS at 312-996-2862.
