Animal Research Updates

Updates to Current Information | New Information | Mandatory ACC Training

Please review the following updates and new additions concerning research involving animals. These changes may impact your research and have been made as part of the yearly review of all forms, policies and procedures to ensure that UIC maintains compliance with all federal regulations.

Updates to Current Information

Expansion of Pending Protocol Submission

Expansion for all new competitive applications to NIH or other funding agencies (if allowed by the agency). Pending protocols should be submitted on the new Form E required for tracking the funding submission. See the Protocol Submissions Based on Funding Proposals Policy for full details.

It is the investigator’s responsibility to determine if ACC approval is required at the time of proposal submission or review and to submit complete protocol forms for review and approval in a timely manner so as to not delay submission of the proposal.

Resubmission Notices

Notices now include a submission date for replacement protocols. The time allotted is to allow adequate time for the review and final approval process. No protocol can be extended beyond the three-year anniversary date of approval. Per federal regulations, extensions are not allowed.

Continuation Notices

Notices now include specific questions on potential areas of modification of a protocol. Continuation forms must be completed by the anniversary date of the protocol to avoid termination of the protocol.

Guidelines

ACC Forms

ALL protocol forms have been revised. When submitting protocols or modifications check the ACC web site to assure that you are using the most current version.

Important: No old ACC forms will be accepted after July 1, 2004.

New Information

Guidelines

Tail Snipping in Rodents - established for the collection of biological samples for DNA analysis.

Assurance Statement

Investigators must sign a new assurance statement indicating that all animal models/procedures on the funding source listed on the protocol are covered by the protocol.

Appendix 4

If multiple funding sources are supported by an ACC protocol then Appendix 4 must be completed to delineate which procedures/animal models are supported by which funding proposal.

Mandatory ACC Training

All personnel listed on an ACC protocol must complete UIC ACC training prior to approval of the protocol and personnel will not be added to approved protocols unless training has been completed.
