Investigator 101


In Person Sessions:

Offered throughout the year by OPRS and presented by Assistant Director for Education, Charles Hoehne, Investigator 101 covers the history of research ethics, ethical principles and The Belmont Report, development and application of the federal regulations for human subject protections, UIC's Federal-wide assurance and policies, criteria for review of research, informed consent process, research protocol review processes, and the application of the ethical principles and regulatory requirements.

Instructions:

  • Attend the three (3) hour presentation including the question and answer session.
  • Take and pass the quiz at the end of the session.
  • Complete an evaluation of the session.
  • A certificate will be emailed to you.

Online Sessions:

CITI (Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative) is the online version of Investigator 101. This web-based course will take three (3) to six (6) hours to complete depending on an individual's prior knowledge and experience with research, ethical principles and regulations about human subject protections and CITI course requirements. Links to the Belmont Report, the Declaration of Helsinki and OHRP Human Subjects Document Library, as well as the UIC Human Subjects Protection web site can be found on the Institutional Page.
Instructions:

  • Create an account on the CITI website www.citiprogram.org.
  • Answer the questions to get to the correct course
  • Each course is followed by a quiz.
  • OPRS is notified by CITI and will send you a certificate upon passing the course, as well as update your information in RiSC.
