ARRA OPRS Process

Approval of research involving human subjects that is proposed in ARRA-related submissions can be obtained via one of two methods listed below depending on the current status of your research. Please note that research protocols are reviewed in the order they are received by OPRS.

For those investigators who do not have an approved protocol, a complete Health and Biological Sciences Application Form or Social and Behavioral Sciences Application Form or Claim of Exemption Application Form (depending on the level of review) with all pertinent forms and appendices will need to be submitted for IRB review and approval.  For research requiring convened IRB review, it is recommended that you refer to the meeting deadlines for submission (http://tigger.uic.edu/depts/ovcr/research/protocolreview/irb/meetings.shtml).

For those investigators contacted for resubmissions for a revised scope of work, if the IRB has already provided you with an approval letter listing the specific proposal on the letter (PAF number must match the proposal under revision), no further approval from the OPRS office is needed.   If your approval letter does not list the specific proposal, you must submit an amendment (http://tigger.uic.edu/depts/ovcr/research/protocolreview/irb/forms/0202.doc) revising the research as proposed in the revision to the scope of work.

The length of time for review of a new protocol is dependent up on the level of review required. Investigators may not initiate the research until they have obtained IRB Approval.
