1. Innovation Corridor Poster Session

BIO will once again host the Innovation Corridor Poster Session at the BIO 2006 Annual International Convention. Innovation Corridor provides a unique opportunity for researchers to share their research aimed at solving problems and/or addressing unmet needs with worldwide industry leaders focused on health-care, agriculture, environment and the biotechnology industry. The objective of the session is to foster world-class collaborations among academia, early-stage research organizations, and industry.

Innovation Corridor Poster Session will offer an expected audience of 20,000 industry professionals that are actively looking for technology innovations and collaborations with academia and early stage research organizations.

All abstracts must be submitted by January 27, 2006, for consideration. Please visit the following link for more information and to fill out a poster abstract application:http://www.bio.org/events/2006/poster/proposals/.

Topics should be related to academic research or a development effort, which could potentially provide solutions to, or address, unmet needs in biotechnology. Poster abstracts should outline the problem the research or development addresses and, if possible, identify potential commercial markets.

2. Translational Research Forum: Solutions to the Challenge

The Translational Research Forum: Solutions to the Challenge provides an opportunity for stakeholders in translational research to discuss current issues and innovative solutions. The program includes case studies of academic programs and academic-industry joint ventures that move discoveries to commercializable products. Discussions among the key stakeholders, including academics working on research strategies, industry representatives seeking innovative ways to fill pipelines, and foundation representatives looking to fund cures will be emphasized.

The BIO 2006 CSO Boot Camp is a comprehensive training course for academic investigators interested in creating a new venture around their work. The one and a half day rigorous program introduces academic investigators to entrepreneurial principles through modules and panels comprised of successful academic entrepreneurs, venture capitalists, R&D managers, attorneys, technology transfer and licensing professionals, and entrepreneurship professors.

The program will include modules on:

  • Stakeholder analysis
  • Assessment and qualification of academic projects as potential start-ups
  • What every investigator must know about life science IP
  • Factoring FDA review into project planning
  • Reimbursement issues, building the management team
  • The business plan as a tool and as a document; making the most of the TLO and business school entrepreneurship centers
  • Licensing and alliances
  • Capitalization of the venture and lessons learned

4. The BIO International Marketplace

The International Marketplace is comprised of companies and research/academic institutions from around the world that come together for this one event to spotlight new research, advancements in innovation and product development. It is a unique networking opportunity that brings together health care, food and agriculture, industrial and environmental and other areas to meet with global business leaders and explore common research initiatives and possibilities for collaboration. The International Marketplace is only open Sunday and there is no extra fee to participate. A valid BIO 2006 badge (all registration types welcome) must be worn to attend. Attendees who wish to participate in the International Marketplace must submit an application by December 16, 2005.
