Bio:
Nicole Kazee received her PhD from Yale University in May 2009.  Her research and teaching interests are in the areas of American politics and policymaking.  Her dissertation, entitled "Wal-Mart Welfare," examined the contemporary policymaking process in the states, using health care programs for the poor to explore the factors that shape variation in legislative decisions.  In particular, the research highlighted the importance of institutional rules, fiscal norms, and the political role of employers.  She has received full-year research fellowships from the Brookings Institution, the Miller Center of Public Affairs, and PEO International, and has been a fellow at Demos in New York.

Fields of Interest:
American state governments, American national institutions (e.g., the presidency and Congress), interest groups (particularly the business community), and the politics of social policy (e.g., health care and antipoverty programs)

Current Research Interest:
State and national health reform, the anti-tax movement and its effect on state policy choices
