Dates

How many sessions do you offer over the summer? What are the dates?
UIC has two summer sessions:

4-week session:  May 17 - June 11
8-week session : June 14 - August 6

Registering

How do I register?
If you’re a current UIC student, you register for summer courses as you would for courses in the fall or spring – using Student Self-Service.

How do I find session info for summer courses?

The Schedule of Classes does not list the courses for the 4-week and 8-week session separately. The session information is included in the individual course listing.

Courses in the 4-week session will specify "Meets 17-May-10 – 11-Jun-10" and 8-week session courses will specify "Meets 14-Jun-09 – 06-Aug-10."

What’s the maximum number of credit hours that I take over the summer?
Undergraduate students can register for up to 12 total credit hours – either as a combination of courses taken in the 4-week and 8-week sessions, or just courses taken in the 8-week session.

Graduate students can take up to 20 credit hours over the summer.

If you wish to register for more than the maximum credit hours allowed, please speak with your college advisor.

Because of the intensive nature of the 4-week session, students are advised to only register for one course.

Tuition, Fees, and Financial Aid

How much does it cost to attend summer session?
Please go to the Tuition & Fees page for information.

Where can I find an explanation of the fees that I will be assessed when I register?

Check the Explanation of Tuition and Fees page.

Do I have to pay the U-PASS fee?
The U-PASS provides eligible students unlimited travel on all CTA buses and trains at a discounted rate throughout summer session. All eligible students will be assessed the non-refundable U-PASS fee. Only students with documented disabilities that affect their ability to use CTA service can petition for a waiver of the U-PASS fee. These requests will be reviewed on a case by case basis. For more information, contact the Office of Disability Services at (312) 413-2183 (Voice) or at (312) 413-0123 (TTY).

When should I expect to receive a tuition bill?

Students can view their monthly billing statement (E-bill) online.

If you register by Monday, June 7, whether for the 4-, 8-, or 12-week session, you will be sent an email notification about your E-bill in early June. The payment due date will be Monday, June 28.

If you register after Monday, June 7 for summer courses in the 8-week session, you will be sent an email notification about your E-bill in early July. The payment due date will be Wednesday, July 28.

If you make changes to your registration that result in a range tuition change, you can view the updated balance due by logging into your Student Account Summary and selecting “View Accounts” under the E-bill option.

Can I get financial aid for the summer?
For information on financial aid, visit the Office of Financial Aid website or call them at (312) 996-3126.

Directions to Campus and Parking

Is parking available?
If you will be using University parking facilities only occasionally, you can park in the visitor lots and pay cash or purchase pre-paid parking coupons. However, if you will be driving to campus regularly, purchasing a parking assignment may be more economical. If you plan to purchase a parking assignment, we encourage you to do so early.

For more information about parking options, download the parking rules and regulations, parking maps and a parking application. You can contact Campus Parking at (312) 413-5800 or in person at their office in the Student Services Building, Room 2620, 1200 W. Harrison Street.

Housing

Is housing available over the summer?
Campus housing is available for UIC students and Summer Session Only students over the summer. Please visit the Campus Housing website or contact Campus Housing at (312) 355-6300 or at housing@uic.edu for more information about applying and rates.

Campus Housing also provides some off campus housing information on their website.

Dropping a Course or Withdrawing From All Courses

What is the difference between dropping a course and withdrawing from all courses?
If you are registered in multiple courses during the summer and want to drop some but not all of your courses, you would be dropping individual courses.

If you are registered in one or more courses during the summer and want to withdraw from all of your courses, this means that you will be withdrawing from the University for the summer.

The procedures and refund polices for dropping an individual course when you are enrolled in multiple courses and withdrawing from all of your courses/withdrawing from the University are different, so please review them carefully. Check this Guide to Understanding Drop & Withdraw deadlines for an overview of key dates.

Will I get a refund if I drop a course?
If you drop a 4-week session course and thereby reduce your course enrollment to a lower tuition assessment range (e.g. from Range 1 to Range 2), then you will receive a refund of the tuition difference between the two ranges if the change is made by Monday, May 17. No refund will be issued for a 4-week session course that is dropped after May 17.

If you drop an 8-week session course and thereby reduce your course enrollment to a lower tuition assessment range (e.g. from Range 1 to Range 2), then you will receive a refund of the tuition difference between the two ranges if the change is made by Monday, June 14. No refund will be issued for an 8-week session course that is dropped after June 14.
